Melba Patillo Beals - The main character of Warrios Don't Cry. Melba is one of the Little rock Nine. She fights the racist monster
known as the United States during the integration of Little Rock Central High. Dynamic/Round Character
Grandma India - Grandma India was a very influential character in Melba’s life and Melba's book. She is a very religious woman
who was comforting to Melba in times of trouble. Grandma India told Melba that warriors don’t cry,
which provided her with the title of her book. Static/Flat Character
Link - Link is a white student that befriended Melba during her days at Central High. Link has a very close relationship with
his nanny, who is black, and that is how Melba and Link could both relate. Static/Round Character
Conrad Patillo - Conrad is Melba's younger brother. During the story, he was always at Melba's side for support.

Minnijean Brown - One of the Little Rock Nine. Miinijean was Melba's closed friend out of all the Little Rock Nine. She eventually
was expelled from Central High for fighting and was sent to New York to gog to school. Static/Flat Character
Elizabeth Eckford - One of the Little Rock Nine. On the first day that Elibateh attempted to enter Central High, she was turned
away by the Arkansas National Guard. She was almsot attaced by an ngrey white mob at the school.
Elizabeth was escorted away from the crowd by two white people, Grace Lorch and Banjamin Fine.

Ernest Green - One of the Little Rock Nine and was one of the oldest in the group. Ernest was the first African-american student to

Thurgood Marshall - He as the lawyer who argues on behalf of Linda Brown in the Supreme Court case of Brown v. The Board of
Education of Topeka, Kansas. As Chief Counsel of the National Association for the Advancement of Colored
People (NAACP), Marchall supports the Little rock Nine in their attempt to integrate the Central High. Marshall
went on to become the very first black Justice on the Supereme Court of the United States of America.

Governor Orval Faubus - Governor Faubus was the Governor of Arkansas in 1957. He was the person to give the order to keep
the integrating African-American students out of Central High School, and he also ordered armed
Arkansas National Guardsmen to prevent Melba and the rest of the Little Rock Nine from entering the

Danny - A white soldier that is enlisted in the 101st Airborne Division. He was assignedto protect Melba. Static/Flat Character

Mrs. C. Daisy Bates - She was the President of the NAACP in Little Rock, Arkansas. Mrs. Bates also ran a local newspaper, the
