One of the Little Rock Nine, Melba Pattillo Beals began writing Warriors Don’t Cry shortly after her experiences at Central High School in 1958 and the integration of blacks and whites at the school; however, the book was not published until 1994. Beals includes portions from her childhood diary, as well as newspaper clippings which were saved by her family. This true story follows Beals from her birth to her return to Central High as an adult.
